Long Champs – Results, Splits & Photos

After having worried about the Paddy’s Swamp area being burnt out a month ago and possibly destroyed by tornadoes during the week, it was with relief that the day dawned bright, sunny, not too hot for the Long Distance Championships at Paddy’s Swamp near Bambra – about 35 minutes from Anglesea.

Competitors had a variety of terrain to enjoy, including intricate navigation around a disused coal mine, that is now beautiful lakes, a great network of bush tracks, (some quite sandy), steep climbs and challenging route selections.

The Men’s Elite was again a tussle between Chris Firman and Steven Cusworth (photo), with Steven managing to take out first place by one minute. Conal Boland-Bristow from New Zealand came 3rd only five minutes behind.

Women’s Elite seemed to have settled into a groove with Marquita Gelderman again winning first place, Carolyn Jackson second, six minutes behind and Marina Iskakhova third.

The event was again organised by Bayside Kangaroos and their band of willing helpers. Many thanks for a great day.
